Education

Petitioner: Ewan Cameron

Status:
Closed

Date Lodged: 27 April 2012

Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to consider new legislation to ensure that child minding businesses of more than six children operate on equal terms when competing with more regulated preschool nurseries.

Petition History:

Summary:

15 May 2012: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government, the Care Inspectorate, the Scottish Childminding Association, the Association of Quality Nurseries, COSLA and a selection of local authorities (South Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire, Glasgow and Perth and Kinross). 4 September 2012: The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 on the grounds that current regulations ensure the quality of service to children and the Committee agrees that no new legislation is required; the Care Inspectorate has the power to place conditions on childminding services and it is not clear that the changes suggested in the petition would improve outcomes for children; and existing childminding services ensure availability of affordable childcare and respond to working parents in a flexible way.
