Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to ensure that—

  • financial viability studies are conducted on listed buildings requiring restoration and/or maintenance,
  • responsibility of ownership is established for this work and;
  • financial assistance is provided where listed buildings are at risk of falling into disrepair.

29 October 2020: The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the basis that the Scottish Government will make the Our Place in Time Built Heritage Investment Group aware of the issues raised in the petition so they can be considered as part of its work. Too many listed buildings are being left too long whereby they fall into a state of disrepair far beyond the condition they would have been in had they been subjected to a maintenance plan.

All buildings should be maintained to an acceptable standard, plus owners should be liable if this is not done.
