Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to amend the Legal Profession and Legal Aid (Scotland) Act 2007 by removing any references to complaints being made timeously.

The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government, the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, the Law Society of Scotland, the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland and mental health charities. 18 February 2014: The Justice Committee considered PE1479 by Andrew Muir on complaints about solicitors and agreed to keep the petition open and to review the position again once the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission has concluded its consultation on all of its rules, including the time bar.

4 November 2014: The Justice Committee agreed to to keep the petition open and await the outcome of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission's consultation on its proposal to increase the legal aid time bar from one year to three years with effect from 1 January 2015. 29 September 2015: The Justice Committee considered PE1479 by Andrew Muir on complaints about solicitors and agreed to write to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission seeking confirmation of when its rules on the time-barring of complaints will change and to keep the petition open until a response has been received.
