PE01723: Essential tremor treatment in Scotland

I agree that it is important to raise awareness of Essential Tremor it affects thousands of people. Impacts on their daily lives and in severe cases prevents them from working. Awareness could be achieved through the media, TV , Radio, Newspapers and magazine articles. Also National Tremor Foundation pop up stalls at public events. It would be greatly beneficial to Scottish ET sufferers to have a focused ultrasound scanner available in Scotland.I feel it would be a way forward in delivering good treatment for Scottish sufferers. It would benefit the patient and NHS, the patient would not be required to travel to London,( the only focused ultrasound scanner to the best of my knowledge in the UK) traumatic in itself, they would also remain under the care of the Scottish medics responsible for delivering their treatment. The Scots medics would not be reliant on a report, they would have total control of the treatment delivered to their patient.

I too have Essential Tremor for over 45yrs and understand the daily difficulties and a need for this disorder to be taken more seriously with FUS as a treatment. I raise awareness of this neurological disorder and also Support group coordinator for National Tremor Foundation

I've had an essential tremor for more than 10 years and it has a massive impact on my life at work and at home. Anything that can help I'm all in favour off.

Myself and family memebrs live with this condition. I am on long term medication which helps but other family members cannot take the medication and their tremor is so bad that it is very difficult to even take a drink from a cup. They could benefit from treatment if this machine was purchased and hopefully it would enable them to carry out all activities of daily living, independently.

If the NHS, save 30k because an invasive operation is surplus to requirements, surely £10k as an investment for everyone.

I work for NHS Scotland and have a colleague what has severe tremors and would benefit as well as many others for this in Scotland.
