Thousands of sentient animals suffer and die in traps and snares on grouse moors across Scotland, set in order to control predators or so-called "vermin" that interfere with sporting pursuits. 

Do we have any right to kill one type of animal so that another can be killed for recreation?

Should any traps be permitted for use against our wildlife?  

If so, how can an instant and humane death be guaranteed? 

Is it ethical or sustainable to keep killing the same type of animals, year after year, in the same location?

Our wildlife is under enough stress and this is an elitist pastime which takes a huge toll . It needs to stop causing death for sport is disgusting.

I am angry that wild indigenous animals are wantonly killed, often in very cruel ways, by human beings who have no regard for the fact that all indigenous animals have an important role in keeping ecosystems healthy. Take one animal, plant or insect out of that ecosystem, and the ecosystem is disrupted. Please take the time to learn about the importance of helping indigenous animals to live as part of the natural environment.

When I walk on the moors I would like the chance to see Hen Harriers, Golden Eagles, Hares, Badgers and other British animals. The moors look pretty dead to me - and I can guess why!!

Gamekeepers are legally able to set cruel and outdated traps and snares to kill animals that are predators to red grouse, as they want as many red grouse available as possible for commercial shooting. Foxes, weasels and stoats are regularly targeted, but these traps are indiscriminate and domestic cats, dogs and badgers are also trapped. Tens of thousands of animals are killed each year on driven grouse moors. This cruelty has to end. Animals deserve to be respected.
