Written Submissions:

Scotland’s landscapes are amongst the best in the world, but we only have two National Parks, the highest national accolade which can be given to a place.  Scotland’s first two National Parks have achieved a great deal in their first decade, and they inspire pride and passion amongst local people and visitors.  There are other outstanding landscapes in Scotland worthy of National Park designation, and local and national public support for this.  More National Parks would generate many environmental, social and economic benefits.  They would bring additional resources, strengthen Scotland’s international standing for environmental protection and support our crucial tourism industry.  It is now time that the Scottish Government prepared a strategy to designate more of Scotland’s land, coast and sea as National Parks.

Marine conservation is prime concern. We must protect our coastal areas and special interest or habitat areas for our sea life.

I'm off the opinion we need marine sanctuaries too. The West Coast is a treasure trove of animal life, beautiful Islands and unspoiled waters. Future oil-gas development there will need to be CAREFULLY managed but the Scottish parliament.

I think that it is not a case of how many NP's we have or would like, but what areas of Scotland do we leave out?

Worth it in itself, but especially if it helps the industrialisation of remote areas with ever growing wind factories and mile upon mile of poorly constructed tracks to service them.

As a frequent visitor to Scotland, I would have no hesitation in saying that I believe it to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world. However, this astonishing beauty is currently threatened by many hundreds of planned inappropriate developments, particularly but by no means exclusively, wind farms, with damaging proposals currently in the pipeline across the whole country, from Galloway to Shetland. Yet, Scotland's natural beauty is surely its prize asset and one of its biggest tourist draws. It is imperative to act now to ensure that this beauty is not lost and can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

I have spent most weekends in our wild places for the last 5 years, and can see the harm beeing done We need to protect the environment and National Parks is a good way of doing this.

As a frequent visitor to Scotland (and now a resident) I visited, and still visit, our national parks for their outstanding beauty. Having travelled the world, Scotland can, just, hold its own with the likes of Canada, Austria and the Himalaya. But, excessive development (power lines, turbines etc) ruin that raw natural beauty and this means other the other places mentioned are much more of an attraction to me as a tourist. I'd much prefer to spend my money at home but try taking stunning photos with man-made structures in the way. We have something so beautiful that it needs protecting for future generations and to show the world just what a gorgeous country we have. There are alternatives - hydro is a proven success and power lines can be buried and development can be done sensitively.

We have two National Parks focused on recreation & local business. There is a real need for a western seaboard Park right down the western side of scotland including the islands that focuses wilderness & conservation & to prevent continued damaging exploitation such as wind farms & poor land management based on outdated Victorian shooting estates. A wild land returned to its wild nature with free access for all for non damaging recreation & giving local business from sustainable environmentally friendly means. A land where the ecosystem is repaired enough to see once lost species such as Lynx & wolf help establish a thriving wilderness legacy we can leave for our children instead of damage & destruction.
