79% of Usdaw members in Scotland say they are not happy to work on New Year’s Day or 2 January. Do you agree they should be given a day off to spend time with their families over the festive period?

72% of Scottish Usdaw members report that their stores are fairly or very quiet on New Year’s Day. Would you be happy for all large stores to be closed on this day?

Just a personal comment that I am sure can be replicated. A family member had worked 10 days in a row during the festive period. They were unable to join a family gathering. Their retail job is demanding. Its time to look at pay and conditions and holidays for retail workers.

New Year is a splendid tradition in Scotland and should be upheld for family and friends to gather together.

Working people are the reason that we have commerce. They are the main commodity that businesses cannot do without. Respect your workers, respect their families and the will respect you.

Having worked in retail for over 17 years it would be amazing to have time off with my grandchildren as I missed out so much with my own children
