Meeting of the Parliament 17 May 2012 : Thursday, May 17, 2012
Jim Eadie I have just taken an intervention, so I would like to make some progress.

I agree with other members that the public need to be assured that waiting times practices throughout Scotland are completely transparent and that the experience in NHS Lothian is isolated to that board and is not t...

Meeting of the Parliament 17 May 2012 : Thursday, May 17, 2012
Jim Eadie I accept that the member has a track record on the issue and I give him credit for that. However, the idea that the SNP Government has anything to be ashamed of is ludicrous. It is the SNP Government that has overseen the implementation of new ways of managing waiting lists.

Meeting of the Parliament 17 May 2012 : Thursday, May 17, 2012
Jim Eadie (Edinburgh Southern) (SNP) I welcome this important and timely debate on waiting times in NHS Lothian following the publication of the PricewaterhouseCoopers report in March and the subsequent investigation into its management culture, which was published last Friday. There can be no doubt but that trust and public confidence...

Health and Sport Committee 15 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Jim Eadie I made it clear that I was looking for a one-off session. When I referred to an inquiry, I meant a short-term inquiry that would take one day.

Health and Sport Committee 15 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Jim Eadie I endorse the views of the keen sportspeople on the committee, whose comments were well made. On access to medicines, I think that all members are probably experiencing through their postbag and e-mail inboxes a degree of public concern. I know that to be the case in my constituency, where there is ...

Health and Sport Committee 15 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Jim Eadie That is a helpful clarification. Notwithstanding your concern about cost cutting, does the RCN accept that, at the moment, people are being offered services almost—if not quite—on a take-it-or-leave-it basis? Mr Mackay suggested that, by purchasing services for an individual, we are able to ensure t...

Health and Sport Committee 15 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Jim Eadie (Edinburgh Southern) (SNP) Does not self-directed support offer an opportunity to save NHS resources? People in Glasgow yesterday and a good written submission from Glasgow City Council gave examples of people who receive social care. One individual faced spending the rest of his life in hospital unless significant additional...

Health and Sport Committee 08 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 08, 2012
Jim Eadie Thank you.

Health and Sport Committee 08 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 08, 2012
Jim Eadie We have examples from across Scotland of inconsistency in charging for care for people with learning disabilities and I can already hear the same argument being replayed with regard to direct payments. Are you concerned about that? What reassurance can you offer people who have such anxieties?
...

Health and Sport Committee 08 May 2012 : Tuesday, May 08, 2012
Jim Eadie I am not aware that such a breakdown is available; it would certainly be useful.

Secondly, with regard to the payment itself, the bill says:

“‘relevant amount’ means the amount that the local authority considers is a reasonable estimate of the cost of securing the provision of ...
