That the Parliament congratulates the Annan Harbour Action Group on securing a licence from Marine Scotland to stabilise and repair the slipway at Annan; considers that the slipway will attract boat owners from the surrounding areas and so help the local economy; understands that the Annan Harbour Action Group is made up of committed local people working on a voluntary basis to bring Annan Harbour back into active use; considers that a regenerated and safe harbour area could attract sailors and canoeists and so provide leisure opportunities for people of all ages; further congratulates the work of the group in promoting the re-establishment of coastal rowing on the Solway as part of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Project, and looks forward to the Annan Harbour Festival on 5 May 2012 when the community will celebrate the progress achieved so far and raise funds for the future improvement of the waterfront area.

That the Parliament congratulates the Big Burns Supper Trust and organisers on the success of the festival celebrating the life and works of Robert Burns in Dumfries, the town where Scotland's national bard spent the latter part of his life; understands that over 1,000 people were at Whitesands for the launch of the festival on 27 January 2012 and that, at the same, a further 3,000 were in attendance at 45 other venues around the town; notes the attendance of the Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, who raised the flag for the regional launch of the Year of Creative Scotland; understands that the festival provided a platform for innovative music, theatre, visual arts, dance, live art, film, cabaret and children’s events; applauds the hard work of the many young people in the festival team and hopes that the work was good experience and training for them for the future; further congratulates the Big Burns Supper Trust members who successfully completed the World Host training course, which, it understands, is now being rolled out across Scotland; considers that, without the financial support given by Creative Scotland and others, this festival could not have been the success it was; believes that this festival will have brought positive effects to the local economy, boosted the creative industry in Dumfries and Galloway and increased the public’s appreciation of Burns, his poetry and Scottish culture, and wishes the Big Burns Supper Trust all the best for its annual festival.
