Finance Committee 16 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 16, 2012
John Mason If I have understood things correctly, young people would perhaps all go to one jobcentre, from which they would get a lot of support. How would that tie in with travel, which has been mentioned already? Would it happen only in cities?

Finance Committee 16 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 16, 2012
John Mason I believe that there are plans in some of the jobcentres to specialise and focus on young people.

Finance Committee 16 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 16, 2012
John Mason I have a comment, in my role of questioning the DWP.

Finance Committee 16 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 16, 2012
John Mason We heard that John Wheatley College is texting young people in the morning. Is that the type of thing that the DWP can do?

Finance Committee 16 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 16, 2012
John Mason (Glasgow Shettleston) (SNP) That is good timing, convener, because I want to hear the DWP’s views.

I was interested to see that the DWP’s submission states:

Meeting of the Parliament 16 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 16, 2012
John Mason (Glasgow Shettleston) (SNP) A number of fathers have been in touch with me about that. Does Nanette Milne agree that the courts seem to start from the position that the mother should have the main contact and the father must argue for every inch?

Meeting of the Parliament 10 May 2012 : Thursday, May 10, 2012
John Mason (Glasgow Shettleston) (SNP) Today, we are focusing on growth and we have heard of the many positive actions that the Government has been taking. Scottish Government policies have been very focused on growth and jobs, and, across the chamber, we all welcome that. Nevertheless, it is right to say that unemployment is too high, e...

Meeting of the Parliament 10 May 2012 : Thursday, May 10, 2012
John Mason (Glasgow Shettleston) (SNP) Where would the money that the member wants to put into colleges and housing come from?

Finance Committee 09 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 09, 2012
John Mason The problem is that the two things are happening at the same time and people are being given control over the lower amount, which means that they cannot buy the same service that they had before. There are issues with that, of course, and I take your point.

Finance Committee 09 May 2012 : Wednesday, May 09, 2012
John Mason I accept what you have said on that, as have other people. I just wonder whether we will ever be able to get underneath that and separate out the reasons for things. I get people coming to me who used to have two days of a service of some kind but have now had that cut to one day, and there are simi...
