That the Parliament acknowledges that South Lanarkshire Healthy Valleys Initiative has won what it considers to be the prestigious GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Award; understands that this is for the initiative's contribution to improving health, which was considered to be outstanding; notes that it defeated 351 groups nationwide to win the £25,000 worth of funding, and recognises the hard work and dedication of the Healthy Valleys' team of staff, volunteers and company directors and its vision to reduce health inequalities in the Clydesdale area.

That the Parliament welcomes the commitment by Viridor to invest £500 million in shovel-ready Scottish next generation infrastructure in support of Scotland’s ambitious zero waste strategy and its focus on waste reduction, reuse, enhanced recycling and extracting renewable energy from residual waste; considers that the company is confident in the Scottish Government sustainable waste policy and its regulatory regime, its recent announcements regarding bringing world-leading glass recycling technology to Midlothian, advanced MRF technology to Lanarkshire and continuing investment in Perth; supports moves from landfill to renewable energy from waste that cannot be recycled, and is encouraged by the company’s investment at Oxwellmains in East Lothian, where Viridor is in the final stages of discharging conditions before commencing development; further notes the community benefit potential of such investment in relation to employment and training, SMEs, social enterprises, education and awareness, and calls on the Scottish Government to continue its dialogue with the company.

That the Parliament congratulates Haemophilia Scotland on its recent reception, which was held in the Garden Lobby on 29 February 2012; understands that, in Scotland, over 2,300 people have haemophilia or a similar disorder and that they, their families and carers often experience difficult circumstances; considers Haemophilia Scotland to be a highly effective charity that is dedicated to helping everyone in Scotland affected by a disorder related to bleeding; believes that there is a significant and growing demand for services that are appropriate, responsive and accessible; considers Haemophilia Scotland to be a valuable resource that provides support for everyone, including family and carers, affected by the condition at every stage from diagnosis onwards; congratulates Haemophilia Scotland on the recent appointment of its management committee, and wishes it well as it looks to the future in supporting and working to improve the quality of life of people with haemophilia and related disorders and in its bid to bring the World Federation of Haemophilia Congress to Scotland in 2018.

That the Parliament notes with concern the refusal of redundancy packages to Woolworth staff if they worked in a store with fewer than 20 employees, as laid out in the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992; considers it alarming that a UK Government compensation order has led to this situation; hopes that this can be remedied quickly to ensure that all Woolworth employees receive the compensation that it believes they richly deserve, and calls on the UK Government to support all ex-Woolworth employees in their fight for compensation.

That the Parliament congratulates Bellshill Academy in North Lanarkshire, St Gerard’s Primary School in Bellshill and the Strathaven-based group, Young Lives Healthy Lives, on each being awarded £2,000 by the Big Lottery Fund, and hopes that the money being spent on sport and exercise will encourage the children to take a keen interest in the various activities offered.
