That the Parliament congratulates Linwood High School on its upcoming art exhibition, which commemorates the victims of the Holocaust; understands that, following a visit to Auschwitz by two of its students, the art work was carried out by the school as a permanent memorial; notes that the art will also be exhibited in the St Mungo Museum of Religious Art and Life, and recognises the importance of Holocaust educational programmes in fostering mutual respect.

That the Parliament notes with concern that the number of blood donors in Scotland has dropped by 20% since 1998; understands that, while patient safety is not currently at risk, the NHS in Scotland urgently requires the assistance of the public in boosting stocks of all blood types; welcomes the 100,000 blood donations in Glasgow and the west of Scotland last year; urges everyone to contact the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service to find out how a small contribution can make a significant impact in saving someone’s life, and encourages the public to go to their nearest blood donation centre to donate.

That the Parliament welcomes the imminent EU directive that will make the manufacturing of reduced ignition propensity (RIP) cigarettes mandatory in Scotland and across the rest of the EU; notes that smoking-related fires are the most common reason for preventable deaths reported by the fire services in Scotland; understands that the introduction of RIP cigarettes in other countries has led to decreases in cigarette-related fire deaths, and looks forward to this change making a positive impact on the rate of smoking-related fires and fire deaths in Scotland.

That the Parliament congratulates Paisley Grammar School and the other 16 secondary schools across Scotland taking part in the Schools of Rugby initiative; considers that the £250,000 allocated to the initiative from the Cashback for Communities scheme is an example of how money seized from the proceeds of crime can have positive and tangible benefits for communities across Scotland, and recognises the initiative not only as an investment in the health and wellbeing of young people through sport, but also as making a major contribution to the next generation of Scottish rugby stars.
