The purpose of the Public Petitions Committee is to consider public petitions addressed to the Parliament. The Committee will decide in a case of dispute whether a petition is admissible, what action should be taken upon an admissible public petition and it will keep under review the operation of the petitions system. A petition may be brought by an individual person (other than a member), a body corporate or an unincorporated association of members.
Where do I find information on how to submit my petition?
The 'Get Involved' series of information guides includes leaflets on the public petitions process. You can access these via the 'Visit and Learn' website. The leaflets are available in a range of languages and formats including British Sign Language.
How do I lodge my petition?
Complete the Word template (61KB) and then e-mail it to the clerks to the committee: petitions@scottish.parliament.uk
A new system for submitting petitions online is currently being developed which we hope to launch shortly. In advance of the launch of this new system, the e-petition facility has been suspended therefore there will be no facility to host petitions online and gather e-signatures. The new system will feature a new e-petition site.
You can access details of all closed petitions (those no longer being considered by the Committee) prior to September 2011 here.
