This would plug an important gap and lead the way to establishing a west-east Glasgow-St Andrews rail corridor via Stirling, Alloa, Dunfermline and Kincardine.

For the sake of some track remodelling at Alloa station, and some fairly minor track & signalling upgrades between Longannet & Dunfermline, the existing Glasgow to Alloa service could be easily extended to Dunfermline or on to Edinburgh. Extra stations along the route could then be built. No need at all for the new & costly "Charlestown Chord" that Fife Council support, this need 2 new junctions and a bridge over Grange Road in Dunfermline, why divert services away from Dunfermline, the biggest town on the route? Existing signalling at Charlestown Junction allows trains to access either platform at Dunfermline Town & reverse to Edinburgh. Services could either be Glasgow - Stirling - Dunfermline, Glasgow - Stirling - Dunfermline-Edinburgh, or more imaginatively Glasgow - Stirling - Dunfermline-Leven

This should have been do years ago, why should people have to go Haymarket from Stirling and Alloa to get Fife, when there is a direct route making easier, trains can run from Glasgow Queen Street to fife via Stirling and Alloa , so get on with it Transport Scotland and Scottish goverment.

Unlike the new Borders railway the new service needs to be fully electrified from day 1 as UK currently has a disroportional diesel dependence vs continental Europe.

Makes sense to me to link routes and towns, this being another good example

This would not only benefit the local transport services, it could be a welcome boost for tourism.

This area of Fife is not currently served well by public transport - other rail lines are opening - why not this one?
