Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to make microchip scanning of all domestic animals found dead or alive on all Scottish roads compulsory.

23 February 2016: The Committee agreed to close the petition, under Rule 15.7, on the basis that the routine scanning of dead pets found on roads is already best practice and the Scottish Government has no plans to make it compulsory. Link to Official Report 23 February 2016

It is mandatory to microchip dogs in Scotland. However it is not mandatory to scan their chips if they are found dead or alive on roads. In this way, a heartbroken owner may never gain closure over the death of their pet, simply because they believe it to still be alive.
